A residential service contract is region-specific variant of a home warranty. These service contracts are intended to cover failure of major appliances in a home for a year (or more, depending on the contract) after the sale is complete. Sellers sometimes offer a residential service contract as part of the sale, or buyers may ask for it as a condition of sale themselves.
