Appraisal Contingency

An appraisal contingency is a clause in a homebuying contract that allows a buyer to get out of the transaction if an independent appraisal comes in below the purchase price agreed upon in the contract. Sometimes this clause will only be in effect until a certain date, the appraisal contingency date.
