A home inspector is a professional / service provider with expertise in performing home inspections. Depending on local custom, this professional may be licensed by the municipality or state in which he or she operates. In other areas, local guilds or professional organizations may certify a home inspector. A home inspector should be a trusted, independent third party with no stake in the outcome of the transaction, and they are a crucial resource for a buyer to review the quality of the home and property they're buying. In some areas, this role is performed by a general contractor inspector.
