Closing, or settlement, is the consummation of a real estate transaction and the final transfer of funds and title/deed from one party to the other.
The closing process varies by state and local custom (sometimes happening at the same table with buyer and seller both signing documents until the transaction is complete) or through an intermediary called an escrow agent or closing agent.
